Lionel Messi paid an emotional tribute to Andres Iniesta, who is expected to announce his retirement today (October 8).
Midfielder Andres Iniesta hinted a week ago that he would hang up his boots today, bringing an end to a proud football career.
The reason Iniesta postponed until today is none other than to let the event coincide with the number 8, his legendary number at Barcelona , Vissel Kobe and Emirates.
Yesterday (October 7), Iniesta himself posted a new video, featuring Pep Guardiola, Del Bosque, Luis Enrique and Van Gaal, in which he gave further clues about what would happen today.
Iniesta’s father announced right at the end of the video that Andres continues to be involved in one way or another with the world of football.
For his part, Lionel Messi sent an emotional message to Iniesta, touching fans.
“One of the most magical teammates and the one I loved playing with the most. The ball will miss you and so will all of us ,” Messi wrote on Instagram after learning about Iniesta’s retirement.
Today, Iniesta will hold an event in Barcelona to announce his decision, as well as determine how he will work with football at the age of 40.
