Switzerland international, Granit Xhaka was absent from Arsenal’s 3-3 draw with Southampton in round 32 of the Premier League due to illness.
Arsenal fans hope Xhaka will attend Man City match
Granit Xhaka has played 41 of Arsenal’s 43 games this season. The Swiss international is one of the players who played the most for the Gunners in the 2022-23 campaign. However, Xhaka was suddenly absent from the match against Southampton this morning.
It is worth mentioning that in the pre-match press conference, coach Arteta did not mention Xhaka’s condition. Minutes before the Southampton game, the Spaniard said Xhaka was absent because of illness.
“Unfortunately, this morning Granit Xhaka was not well enough to play,” he said.
Granit Xhaka is one of Arsenal’s key players. Therefore, losing the Swiss player is a big loss for the Gunners.
In the match against Southampton, coach Arteta arranged Fabio Vieira to replace Xhaka. However, the Portuguese midfielder did not meet Arteta’s expectations. Playing faintly, Fabio Vieira had to leave the field to make way for Trossard in the 57th minute.
After the Southampton draw, coach Arteta did not update more information on Xhaka’s condition. Arsenal fans hope the 30-year-old midfielder can recover in time for the Premier League “final” match against Man City on April 27.
The match against The Citizens in the upcoming 33rd round is vital for Arsenal in the championship race. If they stumble, the Gunners are at risk of losing to the second-placed team Man City. Currently, Arsenal tops the Premier League table with 5 points more than Man City but played 2 more games.
